Mission: To provide people with cancer and their primary domestic caregiver simple solutions to address the side effects of cancer treatment.
When Paul got cancer, we did everything we were told and then faced a myriad of issues, as they appeared. Most side effects show up some weeks after treatment has ended. Some of them are transitory, some intermittently recur and some are permanent. We always consulted with his doctor about the issues first to hear what was suggested. If there was no suggestion, which was typical, we prayed for divine guidance. Divine guidance pointed us to information from a variety of excellent sources:
| 1. | We found a very gifted naturopath to work with in addition to Paul's regular doctors. |
| 2. | The Institute of Health website and oncology websites provided information about chemotherapy drugs and their side effects. |
| 3. | Seminars and papers by natural health doctors and their websites provided a great deal of information on nutrition and how our bodies work and ‘leads’ for further investigation in that area. |
| 4. | Research reports posted on medical sites, pharmaceutical sites and natural supplement sites also provided a great deal of information. |
Using the information agreed upon by both conventional and naturopathic sources, we compiled solutions that are friendly to the body, easy to do, legal to obtain and that do not conflict with traditional protocols. That being said, you should always check in with your healthcare professional before adding anything to your current treatment. We were careful to always keep Paul's oncologist aware of what we were doing. I have found ample resources on line that list interactions between prescribed drugs and herbs or other natural supplements. Remember, most prescribed drugs were originally derived from plants. It is very easy to duplicate the action of a prescribed drug and end up taking too much of the same thing. Even though I am personally very adventurous, I do not advocate self-diagnosis or self-treatment. It's best to seek out trusted professional guidance.
On this site, our goal is to share the simple solutions we found as a springboard for your journey. At the very least, you will get a head start on finding what works the best. What we found to be most effective is to give the body the materials it is accustomed to working with. The body uses raw materials such as vitamins, minerals, proteins, amino acids, peptides and enzymes. We are very proud to offer the product lines of Nutricology and Western Botanicals to fill these requirements. After a great deal of exploration, these are the two companies we choose our products from now.
You Can Survive is devoted to cancer survivors. We welcome testimonies from people with cancer who find our ideas helpful. We are interested in hearing from other cancer survivors; particularly about how they successfully addressed the issues they encountered using natural supplements and methods.
